Is the attempted assassination of Trump linked to terrorist organizations?
Former U.S. President Donald Trump was targeted in an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, shortly before he was expected to accept the Republican nomination for a third term.
The shooting claimed the life of one spectator and critically injured two others. Authorities are investigating the incident further.
Reports indicate that the 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks who attempted to assassinate Trump was registered as a Republican, despite having previously made donations to Democratic groups.
On the other hand, an investigation was launched into whether Crooks had any links to foreign powers or any terrorist group.
However, a senior U.S. official said there was “no initial indication that Thomas Matthew Crooks had any ties to terrorist organizations, domestic or foreign, or that he was acting on behalf of a foreign power,” the New York Times reported.
Possible Antifa ties?
Right after the assassination, it was reported on social media that Antifa, a left-wing anti-fascist political movement in the United States known for various acts of violence, was allegedly involved in the assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump on July 13, some media organizations argued.
Many members from Antifa allegedly received training from the PKK/YPG terrorist organization in Syria.
Shooter member of Antifa
The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks by U.S. security services, allegedly has ties to Antifa, known for its radical activism, and reported connections with PKK/YPG operatives in Syria. However, this information has not yet been confirmed.
On the other hand, Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to declare Antifa a terrorist organization.
Antifa fought against the Turkish army
Antifa, like other “radical left” organizations, not only received training but also actively became an apparatus of the YPG/PKK and became part of the YPG/YPJ International.
Although the weight of the Antifa movement within the YPG/YPJ International is unknown, it is claimed that the movement is one of the most effective organizations.
During the Turkish army’s counterterrorism operations in Syria, Antifa stated Afrin, declaring that they were fighting against Türkiye.
