Venezuela demands withdrawal of diplomats from 7 Latin American countries

The Venezuelan government has demanded that seven Latin American countries immediately withdraw their diplomatic personnel from Venezuela because of their comments regarding the presidential election.
A statement from the Venezuelan government stated that Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay used expressions that were deemed interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs regarding the presidential election held on July 28.
Consequently, Venezuela requested that these countries withdraw their diplomatic representatives from Venezuela immediately.
The statement also mentioned that Nicolas Maduro’s government would be pulling all diplomatic personnel from these seven countries.
“Venezuela has the right to determine its own destiny. Venezuela is capable of taking the necessary measures against all actions that threaten the environment of peace and coexistence. We strongly reject these statements that seek to ignore the election results,” the statement read.
Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay had expressed deep concern about the Venezuelan election.
It called for an “urgent” meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS) to thoroughly review the election results.
According to the results announced by the Election Council, Maduro won the presidential election for the third time with 51.20% of the vote.
