A Turkish ship carrying 3,000 tons of humanitarian aid arrived in Mogadishu on Saturday, delivering vital supplies to Somalia.

The ship, named “The Ship of Goodness,” departed from Mersin, Türkiye, on Sept. 29 and docked at Mogadishu’s seaport, where a formal reception ceremony was held.

Senior Somali government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama and Disaster Management Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim, attended the event alongside Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Alper Aktas.

Somalia receives essential supplies amid ongoing crisis

The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) confirmed that the shipment included food items, tents, and essential life necessities, aimed at improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations.

This latest shipment builds on Türkiye’s long-standing support for Somalia, with over 60,000 tons of aid delivered to the East African nation since 2016. Somalia, often affected by natural disasters such as droughts and floods, has relied on international humanitarian aid to support its population.

Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to supporting Somalia

Türkiye has played a crucial role in Somalia’s recovery, not only through humanitarian aid but also through investments in key sectors like education, infrastructure and health.

The Turkish government reiterated its commitment to Somalia, stating, “Türkiye will continue to extend its helping hand to the brotherly Somali people.”

The country also operates its largest overseas military facility in Mogadishu, where it trains Somali National Army forces to enhance security in the region.
