Russia warns of new Cold War as US deploys missiles to Germany
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov strongly criticized the U.S. decision to deploy long-range cruise missiles to Germany, calling it an attempt to pressure Russia and warning that it signifies a move towards a new Cold War era.
In an interview with the Russian state channel Rossiya-1, Peskov expressed Russia’s concerns over the deployment of “Tomahawk” missiles, scheduled to begin in 2026. He emphasized that Russia views this move as part of efforts to ensure its strategic defeat in conflicts like the one in Ukraine, where Germany is involved alongside the U.S., France, and the U.K.
Peskov highlighted that these developments echo Cold War tensions, indicating a worrying trend toward renewed geopolitical confrontation. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov also commented on Russia’s intent to develop a military response to the U.S. decision. This deployment marks a significant escalation in military posturing between Russia and NATO, reminiscent of earlier tensions during the Cold War period.
