Russia condemns Israel for Nasrallah assassination, warns of Middle East escalation
Russia issued a strong condemnation on Saturday following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by Israel, warning of severe consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused Israel of deliberately targeting Nasrallah, fully aware of the likely escalation resulting from such actions. The ministry stressed that Israel bears full responsibility for the resulting fallout.
“We strongly condemn this political assassination. Israel’s military action is fraught with dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the broader region. Despite knowing the implications, Israel proceeded with this act, which will almost inevitably lead to further violence. Israel is fully responsible for the escalation,” the statement said.
Russia also called for an immediate halt to hostilities, urging the international community to take measures to prevent a full-scale armed conflict in the region.
Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death in an Israeli airstrike on a Beirut suburb, further intensifying the ongoing conflict as Israel continues its attacks in Lebanon and Gaza.
