India is significantly increasing its military exports, now reaching over 100 countries worldwide. The United States, France and Armenia are among the top recipients of these exports.

  • Top export markets: According to official sources, the United States, France and Armenia were the leading destinations for Indian military equipment in the last financial year.

    • To the U.S.: Exports include various parts for aircraft and helicopters manufactured by Indian firms for major global defense companies such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
    • To France: India exports a variety of software and electronic equipment.
    • To Armenia: Shipments include ATAGS artillery guns, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, Swathi weapon-locating radars, and other critical defense systems.

Defense manufacturing initiative

The Indian Defence Ministry is actively promoting defense manufacturing to enhance domestic production capabilities and meet both internal and international demands. This initiative has led to a notable increase in the value of defense production since the 2014-15 fiscal year.

Growing industrial base

India’s Defence Industrial Base is expanding, currently comprising 16 defense public sector units, 430 licensed firms, and around 16,000 medium and small-scale enterprises. This growth improves India’s ability to meet global defense needs.
