The Director for Türkiye at the World Bank Humberto Lopez highlighted Türkiye’s leadership in climate change initiatives, stating that these efforts will also contribute to energy security.
Speaking at the opening of the Türkiye Carbon Market Development Project, attended by Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Mehmet Ozhaseki, Lopez expressed their readiness to launch the implementation program for market partnership.
He also commended Türkiye’s leadership in climate change efforts, emphasizing the importance of not only the actions taken but also the leadership demonstrated by the country.
Lopez praised the progress made in climate change, particularly in renewable energy initiatives, stating that these plans will positively impact climate change mitigation, energy security and efficiency in the country.
He also announced a $18 billion package for Türkiye’s activities in the next three years, with $12 billion allocated for supporting the private sector. Lopez further mentioned the bank’s programs to support forest fire management and efforts related to water usage, drought and flooding.
Lastly, he emphasized their efforts to increase the density of low-carbon energy sources, which will support the country’s energy security and reduce costs.
