President Erdogan discusses bilateral relations and Israel’s attacks on Palestine in a phone call with Gambian President Barrow, ahead of the upcoming Islamic Summit in Gambia
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with Gambian President Adama Barrow.
According to a statement from the Presidency of Communications, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Gambia, Israel’s attacks on Palestine, and the 15th Islamic Summit to be held in Gambia.
During the call, Erdogan emphasized the importance of Islamic unity in ensuring that Israel’s attacks on Gaza cease and that United Nations resolutions are followed.
He expressed hope that the discussions and decisions at the Islamic Summit would be beneficial, mentioning that Türkiye would be represented by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the summit.
The summit, held every three years by member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), will be held in Gambia, the smallest country in West Africa, on May 4-5 this year.
Following reactions in the Islamic world after the arson attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, located under Israeli occupation, by an Australian radical Jew on August 21, 1969, the organization was established as the “Organization of the Islamic Conference” at the first Islamic Summit Conference held in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, on September 25, 1969.
Erdogan also mentioned the potential for joint steps to enhance relations between Türkiye and Gambia in the future.
