Mexico’s tourism minister praises Turkish TV series for boosting tourism
Mexico’s Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco Marques hails Turkish TV dramas for driving tourism, emphasizing bilateral relations
During various engagements in Türkiye, Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marques, following his participation in a Mexico Promotion Meeting in Istanbul, spoke to an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent about various aspects of Türkiye-Mexico tourism relations, including the rising popularity of Turkish series in his country.
Torruco, highlighted the significant impact of Turkish TV series on Mexicans’ interest in visiting Turkey, praising Turkish leaders for their successful promotion through popular shows and films.
Torruco mentioned conducting meetings with tourism operators and airline officials in Türkiye, referring to the success of the “Operation Knock on Doors” initiative, which helped transform Mexico City from a business hub into a tourism destination.
He emphasized Mexico City’s transformation into the second-most visited city in Latin America after Cancun, attributing part of this success to promotional efforts targeting Turkish tourists.
38,000 Turkish tourists visited Mexico in 2023
Stressing the importance of Turkish-Mexican tourism cooperation, Torruco highlighted the positive economic impact of Turkish tourists visiting Mexico, with nearly 38,000 tourists from Türkiye in 2023 contributing approximately $42.6 million to the Mexican economy.
Torruco also mentioned the growing mutual visits between the two countries, particularly with the increase in flights initiated by Turkish Airlines (THY) in 2019, leading to a surge in Mexican tourists visiting Türkiye.
Regarding the influence of Turkish expertise in tourism, Torruco praised Türkiye’s position as a global tourism powerhouse and emphasized the significant role of Turkish leaders in promoting the country’s attractions.
On a lighter note, Torruco shared his positive impressions of Turkish cuisine, particularly praising the taste of Turkish bread, and reminisced about his past visits to Istanbul, expressing admiration for its iconic landmarks and vibrant atmosphere.
Torruco also touched upon the recent challenges faced by Acapulco because of a hurricane, expressing confidence in the city’s resilience and predicting a revitalization of its tourism industry in the coming years.
