Hamas delegation meets Turkish intelligence chief to discuss Gaza cease-fire
A Hamas delegation reportedly met with Ibrahim Kalin, Turkish intelligence chief, in Ankara. During the meeting, the urgent need for a cease-fire in Gaza was discussed.
Kalin engaged with leaders of Hamas’s Political Bureau in Ankara. According to security sources, the talks focused on the latest developments in cease-fire negotiations between Israel and Palestine, as well as issues related to prisoner exchanges.
On the other hand, the discussion included evaluating concrete measures to achieve a lasting cease-fire in Gaza, where a severe humanitarian crisis persists, and to increase the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
Constructive, positive approach
The meeting emphasized Hamas’s constructive and positive approach to the negotiations. It was noted that Israel’s introduction of new conditions to the proposal, which was supported by U.N. Security Council resolutions and previously agreed upon, has complicated the cease-fire process.
Concerns about Israel’s ongoing attacks, which have resulted in significant casualties, were also raised.
Türkiye’s intelligence organization has maintained its efforts to facilitate a cease-fire by engaging with all relevant parties and stakeholders.
In this process, Turkish intelligence has played a crucial role, conducting intensive diplomatic negotiations with key actors, including Hamas’s senior leadership, Israel, Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S.
