France and Germany are committed to enhancing Europe’s defense capabilities in response to the evolving security environment.

This announcement was made following the French-German Joint Defense and Security Council Meeting held at Meseberg Castle, located north of Berlin.

The joint statement issued after the meeting highlighted the shared goal: “As two nations, we aim to strengthen Europe’s defense capabilities in light of the changing security landscape.”

The statement emphasized that the European Union must become a genuine geopolitical actor and security guarantor, capable of addressing security challenges and reinforcing international order.

Paris and Berlin advocated for improved and expedited defense production in Europe. “We will enhance our overall defense readiness by bolstering the European defense technology and industrial base. We will provide capabilities that meet our needs and requirements in the face of rising threats and security challenges,” the joint declaration stated.

It was also underscored that a stronger and more capable European defense would positively contribute to global and transatlantic security.

Furthermore, France and Germany reaffirmed their intention to engage in long-term, comprehensive and inclusive cooperation with other partners in the field of long-range defense weapons.
