Eurosatory 2024 Defense Fair begins
Eurosatory 2024, Europe’s premier defense exhibition, is set to launch in Paris with a strong focus on showcasing the evolution of modern warfare technologies. Reflecting on insights gleaned from recent conflicts like the war in Ukraine, the event promises to unveil cutting-edge advancements across various defense sectors.
With a fully booked exhibition space hosting over 2,000 participants, Eurosatory 2024 is poised to exceed its previous attendance records, expecting over 32,000 unique visitors. This surge in interest underscores the industry’s vibrant engagement and the growing demand for innovative defense solutions.
One of the key highlights of Eurosatory 2024 is the dominance of small UAVs, particularly notable for their battlefield superiority demonstrated in the Ukrainian conflict. These agile and durable drones offer tactical advantages, making battlefields more transparent and enhancing situational awareness for military forces.
Given evolving aerial threats in modern warfare, Eurosatory 2024 will showcase autonomous air defense systems designed to provide infantry-level protection. These systems, integrated into armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, represent a critical shift in defense strategies since World War II, where aerial threats are a primary concern.
Artillery systems featuring long-range precision, guided munitions, and rocket systems will be prominently displayed, highlighting their crucial role in countering drone threats and providing deep strike capabilities. Additionally, Eurosatory 2024 will address the renewed emphasis on mine clearance technologies, previously overlooked but now gaining prominence post-Ukraine conflict.
The fair will also spotlight systems resilient against electronic and cyber warfare, essential as these threats become increasingly integral to modern conflicts. Moreover, the shift towards stealthier, lower-profile armored vehicles with advanced protection against UAVs reflects the industry’s adaptation to dynamic battlefield requirements.
Eurosatory 2024 is poised to be a landmark event, showcasing the latest advancements in military technology and serving as a platform for knowledge exchange and strategic collaborations. By incorporating lessons learned from recent conflicts, the fair aims to drive innovation and shape the future of defense capabilities worldwide.
Türkiye’s Defense Industry at Eurosatory
Eurosatory 2024 will highlight the latest advancements in defense technologies and showcase Türkiye’s growing influence in the global defense industry. With groundbreaking innovations like the Alpar UGV, CANiK’s cutting-edge weapon systems, and ASELSAN’s Korkut air defense system, Türkiye is poised to significantly impact this year’s event.
Alpar UGV makes international debut
Türkiye’s first heavy-class unmanned ground vehicle, Alpar, will debut internationally at Eurosatory in Paris. Designed with a maximum load capacity of 15 tons, Alpar operates silently with its serial hybrid electric drive system. Otokar, Türkiye’s leading military vehicle manufacturer, will showcase Alpar alongside other advanced products. Alpar features autonomous patrol capabilities, vehicle tracking, 2D and 3D mapping, and remote control functionalities. Equipped with a serial hybrid power system, Alpar is undergoing extensive mobility tests and is designed to collaborate with other unmanned systems for diverse missions.
CANiK and SYS Group’s latest innovations
CANiK and Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) group companies will participate in Eurosatory, presenting their advanced defense technologies, including the CANiK heavy machine gun family: CANiK M2 QCB, CANiK M2F, and CANiK M3. Another group company, UNIROBOTICS, will showcase the TRAKON series of Remote Controlled Weapon Systems (RCWS), highlighting the technological progress of the local defense industry. CANiK General Manager Cahit Utku Aral emphasized their global impact and readiness to set new international records with their innovative solutions.
ASELSAN’s Korkut system
Among the Turkish defense companies participating in Eurosatory 2024, ASELSAN stands out with its 8×8 armored vehicle-mounted 35 mm Korkut air defense gun system. This system, actively used by the Turkish Armed Forces, will be showcased to demonstrate its technological superiority. Mounted on FNSS-manufactured tracked armored vehicles, the Korkut system comprises three weapon system vehicles and one command control vehicle. The command control vehicle is equipped with a MAR search radar, while the weapon system vehicles feature a dual 35 mm gun, an AKR fire control radar, and an electro-optic system, enabling effective engagement of targets up to 4 kilometers away.
According to news reports on June 1, Israeli firms have been barred from participating in the international defense and security fair, Eurosatory, set to be held in Paris on June 17-21.
