Rebel gains and government retreat

The Syrian army acknowledged losing control of several towns and parts of Aleppo, marking the first time the government has ceded ground in the city since 2016. Rebel forces have reportedly taken control of Aleppo‘s airport and surrounding areas.

The Syrian government has vowed to launch a counteroffensive, with reinforcements being sent to the region.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the death toll from Russian and Syrian strikes since Nov. 27 has climbed to 56, including 20 children.
