Astana summit between Iran, Türkiye and Russia to be held in Doha: Iran FM Araghchi
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that a trilateral Astana summit will be held in Doha on Dec. 7-8.
The summit, involving senior diplomats from Iran, Türkiye and Russia, will focus on the ongoing Syria crisis, regional cooperation, and the continuation of the Astana process, which aims to facilitate dialogue on the conflict.
Astana process and upcoming talks
The Astana format, launched in January 2017, has seen 22 rounds of talks to date, with the most recent held in November 2024.
The 23rd round is expected in the first half of 2025. Araghchi’s announcement of the Doha summit underlines the continued relevance of this diplomatic format, which has been instrumental in de-escalating the Syrian conflict and promoting dialogue among key regional actors.
