Turkish retail giant Bim to expand File supermarket brand with new subsidiary

Türkiye’s leading consumer goods retailer, Bim, has initiated efforts to establish a new subsidiary to manage operations under its File supermarket brand, the company announced on Tuesday.
In a statement submitted to the Public Disclosure Platform, Bim confirmed that it has begun the process of restructuring File as a separate corporate entity within the group. The move aims to streamline operations and expand the supermarket chain with new investments in the food retail sector.
The newly formed company will be fully owned by BIM and will launch with an initial capital of ₺250,000 (approximately $8,000).

File, which was founded in 2015, currently operates in 135 locations across Türkiye and employs around 4,000 people.
Unlike Bim’s signature discount store model, which prioritizes affordability through a limited selection of private-label products, File positions itself as a hypermarket brand, offering a wider assortment of groceries and household essentials.
The decision to incorporate File comes as part of BIM’s broader strategy to optimize its market presence and differentiate its business segments. However, the company has not yet disclosed whether this restructuring will involve further expansion plans or strategic partnerships.
Founded in 1995, Bim operates thousands of discount stores nationwide and has expanded into international markets, including Morocco and Egypt. The company is widely recognized for its cost-effective retail model, which is often compared to European discount supermarket chains such as Aldi and Lidl.
