Türkiye's flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, and Latvia’s airBaltic have significantly deepened their strategic partnership by expanding their existing codeshare agreement, aiming to enhance regional connectivity between the Baltics, Northern Europe, and Central Asia.

New destinations open up two-way regional access

As part of the expanded cooperation, Turkish Airlines will place its flight code on airBaltic-operated routes from Riga to three Northern European cities: Turku and Tampere in Finland and Palanga in Lithuania. These additions are expected to strengthen air links between Türkiye and the wider Baltic and Nordic regions.

In exchange, airBaltic will add its flight code to Turkish Airlines services from Istanbul to a series of key destinations in the Caucasus and Central Asia. These include Tbilisi and Batumi in Georgia, Ashgabat in Turkmenistan, Baku in Azerbaijan, Dushanbe in Tajikistan, and Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan.

The new routes are scheduled to launch after receiving final regulatory approval.

Building on a growing partnership

Turkish Airlines and airBaltic have operated codeshare flights on the Istanbul–Riga route since 2023. According to the statement from airBaltic, the latest expansion reflects their shared goal of tapping into new markets and providing more comprehensive travel options for passengers on both sides of the partnership.

The move also allows each airline to benefit from the other’s regional strengths—Turkish Airlines with its vast global network and airBaltic with its strong presence across Northern and Eastern Europe.

Strengthening hub-to-hub connectivity

By placing their marketing flight numbers on one another’s services, both carriers aim to offer smoother and more efficient connections through their hubs in Istanbul and Riga.

This setup supports seamless itineraries, simplified booking processes, and easier transfers, particularly for long-haul passengers.

The expanded codeshare agreement is expected to draw more travelers by offering greater route flexibility and improved access to underserved destinations, further boosting passenger volumes across both networks.
