US congressman suggests nuking Gaza ‘like Nagasaki and Hiroshima’

Republican U.S. congressman Tim Walberg appears to suggest dropping an atomic bomb on Gaza same as the U.S. once did on Japan’s “Nagasaki and Hiroshima” during World War II

The United States House Republican representative Tim Walberg of Michigan drew condemnation from all around the globe on Saturday as it emerged that he suggested dropping an atomic bomb on Gaza the same way they were dropped on “Nagasaki and Hiroshima.”

Walberg told his audience that the U.S. should not spend a “dime” on humanitarian aid in Gaza but rather give the money and aid to Israel, the U.S.’ “greatest ally, arguably, anywhere in the world,” which has been committing genocide against Palestinians for months.

“It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima,” Walberg said. “Get it over quick.”

The U.S. dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima to end World War II, killing hundreds of thousands of people.

The speech was from March 25, when Walberg met with members of the public in Dundee, Michigan.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the U.S., denounced the congressman’s statements as a “clear call to genocide.”

“This … should be condemned by all Americans who value human life and international law,” Cair’s executive director Dawud Walid said. “To so casually call for what would result in the killing of every human being in Gaza sends the chilling message that Palestinian lives have no value.”

A spokesperson for Walberg’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.

The Israeli military strikes in Gaza have killed over 32,000 Palestinians since Oct. 7.
