Turkish designer Melek Zeynep Bulut’s latest work to be exhibited in London
Turkish designer Melek Zeynep Bulut’s innovative creation “Duo” will be showcased at the prestigious London Design Festival on Sept. 14.
The festival, which will be held in London, United Kingdom, will feature her work at the renowned Painted Hall in Greenwich as part of the “Landmark Projects” section.
Exploring duality with architectural marvel
Bulut’s “Duo” is a groundbreaking piece from the “Open Monuments” series, which explores the concept of duality through an avant-garde lens.
The installation includes intricate elements such as vaults, reflectors, acrylic mirrors, lighting designs, and soundscapes, aiming to create a profound sensory experience.
Portal to new perceptions
In an exclusive interview, Bulut expressed her excitement about exhibiting in London, stating, “This project is a significant achievement for me. Presenting it in such a prestigious venue is truly an honor. The work is the result of extensive collaboration, with over 100 individuals contributing to its creation. We are all immensely proud to share it with the world.”
Bulut emphasized that “Duo” blurs the lines between architecture and art, describing it as an experimental architectural piece or user experience design. “We’ve created a ghostly vault that exists beyond the limits of human perception. The work is composed of micro-parts embedded with sensors, aiming to create a portal-like effect within the space.”
Bridging gap between body and soul
The philosophical core of “Duo” revolves around reconciling the perpetual dualities of matter and meaning, body and soul. “We aim to unify these opposing forces, encouraging the audience to view them as continuations of each other rather than opposites. The work reflects the visitor’s internal dialogue through a unique echo system,” Bulut added. This innovative project is a culmination of efforts from various fields, including architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship.
Turkish designer Bulut’s multi-sensory experience
As “Duo” transforms into a multi-sensory stage, it invites visitors to reshape their perceptions, positioning itself as a second space within the venue. By challenging the traditional concept of boundaries, Bulut’s work offers a powerful commentary on the human body as a borderless entity.
The London Design Festival, hosted by Bentley, Victoria and Albert Museum and the mayor of London, will run from Sept. 14 to 22.
