In a meticulously planned airstrike, Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) eliminated three high-profile terrorists in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

According to security sources, the targets were Omer Firat, known by the code name Tolhildan, and two Iranian nationals: Irfan Zendi, also known as Raman Renas, and Hidayet Resuli, who uses the codename Cengaver Mikayil.

The terrorists were identified and tracked by MIT before being eliminated in the precise operation.

Security sources highlighted that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) have been conducting operations in northern Iraq, forcing PKK/YPG terrorists to retreat to what they believed were safe zones in Sulaymaniyah. However, the recent operation indicates that Sulaymaniyah’s rural areas can no longer be considered secure for the terrorist organization.

Last year, the Turkish intelligence service captured Ramazan Gunes, a PKK/YPG terrorist responsible for 12 attacks. Gunes, who used the codenames Sores and Soresger, was identified as a special forces member of the terrorist group. He was apprehended by Türkiye’s MIT in an operation in Suleymaniyah province, northern Iraq, and subsequently brought back to Türkiye.

PKK’s presence in Sulaymaniyah

The PKK, a terrorist organization, leverages its Syrian branch YPG/SDF among legitimate Kurdish parties. The connection between the Iraqi-Kurdish Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the terrorist group YPG is critical in this context.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated: “We will not hesitate to take further measures if the PUK does not alter its supportive stance toward the PKK despite our sanctions against Sulaymaniyah in Iraq.”

Additionally, a Turkish drone strike in April, which narrowly missed Mazloum Abdi in Sulaymaniyah, underscores the increasing influence of Syrian Kurds within the PKK.
