Kyrgyz President announces China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project at OTS Summit
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov announced the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project to strengthen mutual communication at the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
“We are implementing the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project to strengthen mutual communication in transportation among the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS),” Japarov said.
Japarov attended the Informal Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, themed “Building a Sustainable Future Through Transport Connectivity and Climate Action,” held in Shusha, Azerbaijan.
Highlighting Central Asia’s strategic position in transportation and trade, Japarov remarked: “We are implementing the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project to strengthen mutual communication in transportation among the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States.”
Japarov recalled that the governments of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan signed the cooperation agreement on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project on June 6 in Beijing.
He emphasized this railway would create new transportation potential and open new logistics markets for the OTS member countries.
The Kyrgyz side is in favor of renewing and establishing new transportation corridors in Central Asia. Japarov noted the importance of widespread digitalization of customs procedures to enhance trade.
‘Global warming causes natural disasters’
Japarov pointed out that Kyrgyzstan is acutely feeling the effects of climate change.
“Global warming is causing glaciers to melt and shrink, drought, water shortages, floods, landslides, and avalanches in mountainous Kyrgyzstan. In this context, we consider the signing of the Agreement on the Establishment of the OTS Civil Protection Mechanism to be significant,” he stated.
Japarov invited the OTS leaders to attend the 11th Summit of the OTS Council of Heads of State, scheduled for Oct. 24 in Bishkek this year.
