OECD reports slight rise in consumer inflation

OECD’s latest data reveals a marginal increase in consumer inflation alongside the first year-on-year uptick in energy prices since April

According to data released on Monday by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), consumer inflation in the OECD area increased slightly to 5.8% in March from 5.7% in February.

The Paris-based organization reported that headline inflation decreased in 19 OECD countries, with Slovakia witnessing the largest monthly decline.

Energy prices saw their first year-on-year increase since April of the previous year, rising by 0.6%.

Meanwhile, food inflation within the OECD dropped to 4.9% from 5.3% in the previous month.

Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, remained steady at 6.4%.

In the G-20 nations, annual inflation maintained its level at 6.9%, marking its highest point since March 2023.
