Türkiye’s snow battle, 8 meters of snow in June!
Despite going into the tail-end of June, the mountainous district of Yuksekova in Hakkari province continues to battle heavy snowfall, with some areas reporting snow depths of up to 8 meters.
Throughout this month, teams from the Yuksekova Construction Site Chief’s office, operating under the Provincial Administration, have been tirelessly working to clear pathways obstructed by snow. The focus has been on reopening access routes to the Sat Glacier Lakes and Lakeside Base Area located in the Ikiyaka Mountains. Despite the harsh conditions, crews have utilized excavators to advance through snow-banks that have accumulated to staggering heights in certain spots.
The operation, which has been ongoing for the past 25 days, involves 3 heavy machinery units and five personnel. So far, they have successfully cleared 7 kilometers of the 11-kilometer road, aiming to clear the remaining 4 kilometers in the coming days.
Local residents and officials alike are grappling with the unusual weather pattern, which has posed significant logistical challenges and disrupted daily life.
