Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy exits the 2024 presidential race on Monday night following a lackluster performance in the Iowa caucuses. He throws his support behind former President Donald Trump. 

Ramaswamy secures the fourth position in Iowa, as projected by NBC News, trailing Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. With over 90% of precincts reporting late Monday night, Ramaswamy captures 8% of the GOP caucus vote. 

Having acknowledged Trump’s victory, Ramaswamy contacts him to convey his congratulations and announces his intention to join a rally with Trump in New Hampshire on Tuesday. 

“There needs to be an America First candidate in this race,” Ramaswamy said. “Going forward, he will have my full endorsement for the presidency.” 

At the age of 38, the entrepreneur entered the political arena for the first time in February 2023, initially not widely recognized. Despite his relative obscurity, he swiftly gained traction among Republican voters by aligning his campaign with Trump’s both in tone and policy substance, positioning himself as a successor to the MAGA movement. 

However, his endeavors to draw substantial support away from Trump proved futile, as the former president retained the allegiance of Republican voters. Despite Ramaswamy’s persistent attempts to persuade them that he could better advocate for the “America First” agenda shared by both, he fell short. Additionally, he struggled to mobilize the anticipated influx of first-time caucusgoers that he often asserted would bolster his standing in Iowa.
