US joins aid efforts for Palestinians in Gaza

Following Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, and Belgium, the US steps in to provide aid to Palestinians in Gaza, amidst reports of prolonged suffering due to Israeli blockade

Following Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Belgium, the United States has announced that it will send aid to Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel has been forcibly starving and dehydrating them for months.

U.S. President Joe Biden said that they will start airdropping humanitarian aid to Gaza and that they are in close contact with Israel to ensure that more aid can be delivered to the region.

The Gaza Strip, with a population of approximately 2.3 million people, is experiencing a major humanitarian catastrophe as the Israeli army has continued its attacks since October 7, targeting civilian settlements, hospitals, schools and shelters where displaced Palestinians have taken refuge, as well as blocking the entry of humanitarian aid.

In a statement made in the Oval Office, U.S. President Joe Biden said, regarding the Gazan civilians who were shot dead by Israel while waiting for aid, “What happened in northern Gaza as (Palestinians) were trying to reach humanitarian aid is tragic and frightening. The loss of lives there is heartbreaking.”

Stating that innocent people were “caught up in the war” as they struggled to find food, Biden said, “You saw the situation they faced trying to reach help. We must do more and the United States will do more.” “In the coming days, we will join Jordan to begin airdropping humanitarian aid (to Gaza),” Biden said.

Biden added that they are continuing talks with the Israeli side to send more humanitarian aid to the region.
