Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri suggests that Türkiye might act as the guarantor actor in the Palestinian issue

Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri called for Türkiye to serve as a guarantor state in negotiations between Hamas and Israel in a statement released on Tuesday.

“Tükiye should be the state offering assurances in any truce deal formed in Gaza,” read the statement, highlighting that Türkiye has consistently extended support to the Palestinian people.

Assessing Türkiye’s stance on Palestine, Zuhri underscored the enduring solidarity of the Turkish people with the Palestinian cause. Zuhri indicated they also sensed Türkiye’s backing at the governmental level.

Expressing esteem for Türkiye, Zuhri remarked: “We value and take pride in Türkiye’s diplomatic and humanitarian backing for Gaza.”

Since the onset of Israel’s assaults on Gaza on Oct. 7, Türkiye has endeavored to galvanize international intervention and advocated the model of guarantee in global forums.

Zuhri’s statements hint at Hamas’s acceptance of Türkiye’s offer of guarantorship.
