Turkish military has never been occupying army, British politician says
Former member of the British House of Lords John Kilclooney addressed critics of Türkiye’s Cyprus policy, urging them not to “distort the facts”
Former member of the British House of Lords, politician John Kilclooney, made significant statements about Türkiye.
Recalling that the U.K. is one of the guarantor states in the Cyprus issue, Kilclooney responded strongly to comments claiming that the Turkish military is occupying Cyprus. Kilclooney emphasized that the Turkish military has never been an occupying force.
In his statement, Kilclooney said, “The Turkish Military has never occupied a territory. Turks intervened in Cyprus to halt the massacre of Turkish Cypriots by Greek Cypriots.”
Don’t distort truths
Kilclooney said that Türkiye exercises its right of guarantorship as one of the guarantor states in Cyprus. Kilclooney noted the presence of a Turkish Cypriot population in Cyprus and mentioned Türkiye’s interest in their well-being.
In his assessment, Kilclooney addressed those criticizing Türkiye, saying, “Don’t distort the truths, don’t evade the realities.”
