Trump leads Harris by 2 points in latest poll after Biden withdrawal
In a poll conducted in the United States, former President Donald Trump is two points ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris, who has taken over the Democratic nomination from President Joe Biden.
According to the latest poll by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Trump received the support of 49% of the 1,000 registered voters surveyed, while Harris garnered 47%.
This shows a significant improvement in Harris’ performance compared to the poll conducted by WSJ earlier this month, where she was six points behind Trump.
The poll also revealed a sharp increase in Harris’ favorability among registered voters. Earlier this month, her favorability was at 35%, but it has jumped 11 points to 46%. In contrast, Trump’s favorability remained at 47%, while Biden’s stood at 39%.
Biden withdraws from presidential race
After weeks of internal party debates about his age, mental fitness, and ability to win the White House in November, Biden announced on July 21 that he was withdrawing from the presidential race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
Harris quickly gathered the support of more than half of the Democratic delegates, reaching the required number of delegates for the party’s presidential nomination.
The Democratic Party’s presidential nominee will be officially determined at the party convention in Chicago from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22.
