Russian missile strikes hit Ukrainian cities, inflict casualties

Russian attacks across Ukraine escalate tensions and inflict civilian casualties as they target urban areas and critical infrastructure

On Feb. 7, Russia initiated widespread missile and drone attacks on various Ukrainian cities. The strikes targeted Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv, resulting in four deaths and leaving at least 35 individuals injured.

In a social media post, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klicko revealed that a missile strike by the Russian army on an 18-story apartment building in Kyiv’s Golosiyiv district was responsible for the fatalities.

Mayor Kliçko also reported that 32 people were injured in Golosiyiv, and an additional three were wounded in the Dnipro district, bringing the total to 35.

Furthermore, Interior Minister Igor Klimenko of Ukraine announced on social media that Russia conducted intense missile strikes not only in Kyiv but also in the Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions.

Missile debris damaged two high-voltage power lines in Kyiv, leading to power outages in parts of the city.

In the Lviv region, Gov. Maksym Kozytskyi stated that cruise missiles maneuvered between Lviv, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk, with explosions heard near the Polish border in Drohobych.

In Mykolaiv, Gov. Vitalii Kim reported about 20 residential buildings were damaged, and a local man injured in the attack later succumbed to his injuries. Additionally, a fire broke out in an underground gas pipeline in the region.

Kharkiv Oblast Gov. Oleh Suniehubov indicated that Russian missiles struck non-residential infrastructure in Kharkiv city, causing damage and injuring a 52-year-old woman.
