META reduces Whatsapp usage age from 16 to 13 in EU countries and the UK.

META, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, has decided to lower the minimum age for Whatsapp usage from 16 to 13 in EU countries and the United Kingdom.

META’s decision has sparked controversy in Europe, where the increasing social media addiction among children and adolescents has been debated.

The civil society organization Smartphone Free Childhood accused META of exploiting children for its own profit.

In a statement issued by Smartphone Free Childhood, it claimed that children are under significant threat. The statement said, “As a society, we are tired of technology giants prioritizing their profits over the protection of our children.”
