Road strikes in Poland on Jan. 24

Poland is expected to witness road strikes on Jan. 24, as Adrian Wawrzyniak, spokesperson for the agrarian organization Solidarnossc, has urged all farmers and agricultural unions to participate in protests during a two-hour window from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The demonstrations are likely to extend to the Ukrainian border, with farmers expressing discontent over grain imports from Ukraine and voicing opposition to perceived EU measures that could restrict crop and livestock production in Poland and the EU. The National Council of Agricultural Chambers has also expressed support for the upcoming protests.

Six-day strike at the German railroad

In Germany, the German train drivers’ union (GDL) has declared a six-day strike that will disrupt the entire country. The strike will involve the obstruction of passenger trains operated by the state-owned Deutsche Bahn from 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, until 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29. Freight trains will be affected even earlier, starting from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The exact extent of train cancellations or rescheduling remains unknown at this time.

The trade union members’ demands include improved working conditions at Deutsche Bahn, encompassing higher wages and a reduction in the standard workweek from 38 to 35 hours without a reduction in pay.
