Iran and Sweden swap prisoners
Iran and Sweden, facilitated by Oman, have successfully completed a prisoner swap. This exchange involves the release of a former Iranian official in return for a European Union diplomat and a Swedish-Iranian citizen.
Iran announced the release of former judicial official Hamid Noori, who was arrested in Sweden in 2019 and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022 on charges of “committing serious crimes against international law”, as part of a prisoner swap with Sweden.
Noori was sentenced to life in prison in Sweden for his involvement in the 1988 mass executions.
In return, Iran will release two Iranian-Swedish nationals, Johan Floderus, an EU employee on death row, and Saeed Azizi, an activist serving a five-year prison sentence.
