Greek National Security Government Council announced Greece will take part in the European Union’s Aspides mission in the Red Sea

It was reported Monday that the Greek National Security Government Council (KYSEA) decided that Greece would participate in the Aspides mission of the European Union in the Red Sea.

In his written statement, Greek Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis noted that at the KYSEA ordinary meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, it was decided that Greece would participate in the “Aspides” mission to protect the freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

The mission will provide “situational awareness” at sea, escorting ships and responding to possible attacks.

It will be active in international waters in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, and the Persian Gulf, as well as on main maritime communication lines in the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb and Hormuz.
