The FBI has launched an investigation into what it describes as an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident took place on Sunday outside Trump National Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

In a statement, the agency confirmed its involvement, saying, “The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach, Florida, and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.”

The incident occurred outside Trump National Golf Course around 1:30 p.m., according to law enforcement officials. U.S. Secret Service agents spotted a suspect carrying an AK-47-style assault rifle near the property and responded with gunfire. The suspect fled the scene in a black SUV.

Details remain sparse, but the Secret Service has launched an investigation alongside the FBI. No further information about the suspect’s identity or motive has been released.

Trump’s campaign earlier reassured supporters that the former president was unharmed in the incident, and the Secret Service emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.

This is not the first time Trump has been the target of such an attack. In July, he survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, raising concerns over security for presidential candidates ahead of the November 5 election.

The White House issued a statement saying President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation and were relieved that Trump remained safe.
