Erdogan reveals AK Party’s candidates for Turkiye’s local elections in March
AK Party is announcing the mayoral candidates for 48 provinces, including 17 metropolitan cities, including Ankara and Izmir, that will compete in local elections on March 31
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the candidates of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) for Turkiye’s March 31 local elections in Ankara Thursday.
“On Jan. 7, we announced 26 metropolitan and provincial mayoral candidates in Istanbul. Today, we are announcing the rest of our metropolitan and provincial mayoral candidates. Thus, we have announced all of our metropolitan and provincial mayoral candidates except for seven provinces where we will support the candidates of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) – our partner in the People’s Alliance,” Erdogan said.
The president is expected to announce his party’s election manifesto in a meeting slated on Jan. 30.
The AK Party had decided to form an alliance with the MHP in 30 metropolitan cities and 29 provinces.
AK Party will run candidates in 28 of the 30 metropolitan cities, while MHP will run candidates in Manisa and Mersin.
The AK Party has decided on Murat Kurum as the candidate for Istanbul, Hamza Dag for Izmir and Turgut Altinok for Ankara.
