Elon Musk, the world’s richest billionaire, publicly accused U.S. President Donald Trump of having ties to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday, escalating an already heated and increasingly personal feud between the former close allies.
The shocking allegation marks a dramatic escalation in the feud between Musk and Trump, coming shortly after Musk criticized Trump’s recent legislation and their political alliance collapsed. The accusation appeared Thursday in a post on X, the social media platform Musk owns, just after Trump threatened to cancel government contracts awarded to Musk’s companies and called him “crazy,” turning an already tense political rift into a deeply personal confrontation.
“Time to drop the really big bomb,” Musk wrote. “(Trump) is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.” He added, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”.
Musk’s remarks came on the same day he criticized Trump’s proposed federal spending bill, describing the legislation—which the president has been pushing through Congress—as bloated. Musk, who was once granted broad access to the Trump administration, also suggested that Trump would not have been elected without his support and labeled the president ungrateful.
Epstein, who died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, had longstanding ties to powerful individuals. Names previously associated with him in legal filings include Trump, Prince Andrew, and former President Bill Clinton. Musk's comments renewed public scrutiny over the decision not to release the complete contents of the so-called "Epstein files."
In 2024, Trump publicly denied any connection to Epstein, writing, “I was never on Epstein’s Plane, or at his ‘stupid’ Island.”
