The governments of Cuba and Venezuela strongly condemn the recent airstrikes in Yemen, conducted by US and British forces, as violations of international law

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced the United States’ military actions on Saturday, linking them to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, as U.S. targeted Yemen’s Houthi rebels two days in a row with airstrikes.

“We condemn military attacks by the US & NATO allies in Yemen in violation of International Law. Such acts encourage genocide in Gaza,” Rodriguez stated, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian region.

Similarly, Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement criticizing the airstrikes, describing them as illegal bombings that exacerbate instability in the region.

The airstrikes come in the wake of Houthi assaults on commercial vessels, a retaliatory act against Israeli offensives in Gaza. These incidents have led to a suspension of shipping operations in the Red Sea and raised alarms over potential disruptions in the global supply chain, particularly concerning the Suez Canal.

In response to the threats posed by Houthi actions to maritime trade, the Pentagon has proposed the formation of an international Maritime Task Force. Additionally, the U.S. announced the launch of Operation Guardian of Prosperity on Dec. 18 to safeguard commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
