Australia’s FM condemns ‘unacceptable’ civilian deaths in Gaza, urges cease-fire
Australia’s Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, condemns the “unacceptable deaths of innocent civilians” in recent Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need to protect civilians, including women and children.
Wong did not specify the attacks but noted that many occurred “near schools.” The U.N. reports that over the past 10 days, attacks have targeted eight schools in Gaza that serve as shelters.
“Australia has been calling for a cease-fire for eight months,” Wong stated on X.
The Ministry of Health reports that since the Israeli conflict in Gaza began on Oct. 7, over 38,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have died.
