Despite objections from Johnson and former President Donald Trump, the bill passed the Senate, allocating significant funds for Ukraine’s defense against Russia, security assistance for Israel, humanitarian aid and support for regional partners in the Indo-Pacific.

Speaker Johnson voiced criticism on Monday regarding the foreign aid bill, citing its absence of border provisions. He argued that the Senate should have revisited the bill to incorporate tangible border security measures to address the ongoing migrant crisis from Mexico.

Despite the opposition to the previous version of the bill, which did include border provisions, Speaker Johnson deemed the current measures inadequate. This is despite their bipartisan origins and inclusion of stringent border measures.
