US official praises Türkiye’s role in NATO security
NATO is anticipated to host its leader-level summit in Washington from July 9-11 to commemorate the transatlantic alliance’s 75th anniversary and tackle challenges to collective defense.
The U.S. State Department has stated that the Biden administration is looking forward to meeting with Turkish counterparts during next month’s NATO summit in Washington, D.C.
U.S. Under Secretary for Management John Bass highlighted Türkiye’s longstanding contribution to collective security within NATO. Bass, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ankara from 2014 to 2017, was appointed as the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs by Secretary of State Antony Blinken in March. He had been serving as the Under Secretary of State for Management since 2021.
A U.S. official praised Türkiye’s role in NATO, highlighting its contributions to collective security. The official emphasized the importance of continued discussions with Türkiye on various security issues, both at the leadership level and through official channels.
The statement also acknowledged Türkiye’s partnership in addressing threats from Russia, hybrid warfare, regional instability, and terrorism.
Bass concluded his remarks by stating, “Whether dealing with threats from the Russian Federation, hybrid threats, instability from other regions, or addressing the persistent challenges posed by terrorist organizations, particularly Daesh, Türkiye remains a close partner to the U.S. and other allies in tackling today’s security challenges.”
