Türkiye’s zero waste project contributes $6.845B to economy
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has announced that the Zero Waste Project has successfully diverted 59.9 million tons of recyclable waste back into the economy, generating a revenue of ₺185 billion from recycling.
According to a statement from the ministry, the waste recovery rate under the “Zero Waste” project has increased from 13% in 2017 to 35% in 2023.
The goal is to raise the recovery rate to 60% by 2035.
Global movement, environmental milestones
The Zero Waste Project, which has grown into a global environmental movement and a world-renowned initiative, has achieved significant milestones. By recycling 59.9 million tons of waste, the project has not only bolstered the economy but also prevented the emission of 5.9 million tons of greenhouse gases.
The project has implemented the Zero Waste Management System in 188,000 buildings and provided Zero Waste education to 21 million people across the country.
Furthermore, these efforts have saved 498 million trees from being cut down.
