The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) ensure the security of the Horn of Africa, which has geostrategic value and natural resources.

The Turkish Armed Forces, which will support Somalia’s security against terrorism and other threats for two years, have so far trained 13,500 Somali personnel, 7,000 in Somalia, and 6,500 in Türkiye.

Training for 10 battalions is ongoing

Somalia, which is at a critical threshold in the fight against the al-Shabaab terrorist organization, has recently made significant progress against the terrorist organization with the support of Türkiye in the field.

Making significant contributions to Somalia’s fight against terrorism,

Türkiye has been training 10 commando battalions of the Somali Armed Forces since 2018. They are currently training 10 more commando battalions.

These units, known as GorGor battalions, meaning Eagle in Somali, have demonstrated significant success in counterterrorism operations against the al-Shabaab terrorist organization.
