Türkiye prepares to enact AI law
Huseyin Yayman, chair of Türkiye’s Digital Media Committee, announced that the newly planned Artificial Intelligence Commission will work alongside the Digital Media Committee in the upcoming legislative term.
He stated that a report will be prepared after consulting experts which may lead to legislative work and the drafting of laws related to AI.
Yayman emphasized that AI is a topic of global discussion and that the decision to establish an AI Commission is a significant and valuable development. He highlighted Türkiye’s great potential in the field of AI and its goal to be among the top 20 countries in this area by 2025.
Experts to be heard
The AI Commission, while working in collaboration with the Digital Media Committee, will function as a separate entity. It will involve listening to experts, including those with world-renowned expertise in the field of computing, as well as representatives from TUBITAK, the Digital Transformation Office, the Presidency, and other relevant stakeholders. Academics and professionals from universities’ research and development departments will also contribute. The aim is to create a comprehensive report that addresses all aspects of AI, including its benefits and drawbacks.
Yayman stressed that the issue of AI transcends political divisions and will be approached in a bipartisan manner, with collaboration from the opposition to address this critical matter.
