The Ukrainian Navy’s second Turkish-made ADA-class corvette, Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi (F-212), was launched in Istanbul. The ship is the second of four ADA-class corvettes being built for Ukraine by Türkiye, following an agreement signed in December 2020.

The launch ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials including Ukrainian Navy Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Andriy Tarasov and Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Volodymyr Havrylov.

The event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing military cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine.

Background of the project

The MILGEM Project, led by Türkiye’s STM as the main contractor, aims to deliver a total of four ADA-class corvettes to Ukraine. The first corvette, Hetman Ivan Mazepa (F-211), was launched in October 2022.

“This is a significant event for Ukraine and a great boost to our Navy’s capabilities. The agreements we have made with Türkiye are being implemented on time, some even ahead of schedule,” Vice Admiral Tarasov had previously said during the launch of the first ship Hetman Ivan Mazepa (F-211).

Hetman Ivan Mazepa is expected to become the new flagship of the Ukrainian Navy.
