Türkiye has expressed deep sorrow over the recent deadly truck-ramming attack in New Orleans, Louisiana, and hopes that the motive behind the tragic event will soon be uncovered.

“We are deeply saddened by the attack that took place in New Orleans, USA,” read a statement from Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

The ministry extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. “We hope that the motive for the attack will be revealed as soon as possible and that those who might be responsible will be held accountable before justice,” the statement added.

The incident occurred early on New Year’s Day in New Orleans’ French Quarter, where a man drove a truck into a crowd, killing at least 10 people and injuring 30 others.

The attack took place near the intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets, a popular area for tourists and holiday celebrations.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the attack as a “terrorist act” during a press conference. FBI officials also revealed that an improvised explosive device had been found, though its viability is under investigation.

The attacker reportedly opened fire after crashing the vehicle, injuring two officers, who are now in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to confirm further details.
