Türkiye and Jordan discuss Syria developments in phone call
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, on Monday to discuss the latest developments in Syria, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.
Ministers focused on the outcomes of their respective meetings in Damascus, where both had engaged with Syrian officials. Fidan’s visit to Syria on Sunday marked a significant diplomatic step, with the minister describing it as the start of a “new and hopeful era” for the Syrian people.
“We aim to ensure stability and security in Syria, eliminate terrorism, promote national reconciliation, support economic development, and facilitate the return of Syrians who have been displaced for years,” Fidan said during his visit.
The Turkish foreign minister’s remarks underscored Türkiye’s commitment to stabilizing Syria amid ongoing challenges in the region. He held a joint press conference in Damascus with Ahmad al Sharaa, the leader of the new Syrian administration.
