Turkish security forces eliminate 43 PKK terrorists in northern Iraq, Syria
In a significant blow to terrorist activities, Turkish security forces eliminate 43 PKK/YPG militants in coordinated operations spanning across northern Iraq and Syria, says the Ministry of National Defense
Turkish security forces have eliminated 43 PKK/YPG terrorists in both northern Iraq and northern Syria over the past week, according to the country’s National Defense Ministry.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Brig. Adm. Zeki Akturk announced during a weekly press briefing that a total of 843 terrorists have been eliminated since January 2024, with 376 in Iraq and 469 in northern Syria.
Additionally, 364 individuals, including nine members of terrorist organizations, were arrested while attempting to cross the border illegally, while 2,264 others were prevented from doing so in the past week alone.
Akturk highlighted that the number of individuals arrested since January 1, 2024, has risen to 3,133, while the number prevented from crossing the border has reached 50,860.
In its over 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK has been responsible for over 40,000 deaths. The YPG is its Syrian offshoot.
Akturk also discussed Türkiye’s contributions to regional and global peace, mentioning a memorandum signed between Türkiye and Russia to control the cease-fire and prevent violations in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
He emphasized the urgent need for Israel to implement the U.N. Security Council’s latest cease-fire resolution and the International Court of Justice’s provisional measures.
Akturk also highlighted the ongoing efforts between Türkiye and Iraq to prevent the activities of the PKK terrorist organization and ensure border security.
Additionally, security sources mentioned Egyptian Chief of Staff Osama Askar’s visit to Ankara, signaling a new era of enhanced military relations and defense industry cooperation between the two countries.
