Turkish military aids Gaza with medical supplies, evacuates patients for treatment
Turkish military aircraft delivers urgent medical aid to Gaza as part of humanitarian efforts, transports patients to Ankara for specialized treatment
Turkish military aircraft carrying vital medical aid, including a team of 12 expert doctors and nurses, landed in El-Arish, Egypt, near Gaza, Wednesday to assist the besieged Gaza Strip.
Accompanied by healthcare personnel, a group of Gazan patients and children requiring specialized treatment unavailable in the strip will be transported to Ankara.
What happened?
Following a cross-border incursion by Hamas on Oct. 7, which resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties, an Israeli offensive in Gaza has caused widespread destruction and severe shortages, with over 28,000 casualties reported.
The conflict has forced 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement, exacerbating shortages of essential supplies such as food, clean water and medicine.
Additionally, around 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the U.N.
Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice. In a recent interim ruling in January, the court ordered Tel Aviv to cease genocidal activities and ensure the provision of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
