Turkish intel captures key perpetrator of 2013 Reyhanli terrorist attack in Syria
As a result of a joint operation by the Turkish intelligence and Hatay Provincial Police Department, Muhammed Dib Korali, one of the perpetrators of the 2013 terrorist attack in Reyhanli that killed 53 people, was captured in Syria.
Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) determined that Korali was responsible for obtaining the explosives used in the 2013 Reyhanli attack. Further investigation revealed that he was also involved in planning the attack.
Korali, who had a warrant out for his arrest, was located following extensive intelligence efforts and captured in a cross-border operation carried out by MIT in Syria.
Korali was brought back to Türkiye and handed over to the Hatay Provincial Police Department. This operation is part of a long-standing investigation into the perpetrators of the Reyhanli attack.
53 people lost their lives
The two bomb attacks in Reyhanli on May 11, 2013, resulted in the deaths of 53 people, with many others injured. These attacks remain one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in Türkiye’s recent history.
In 2018, Turkish Intelligence also captured another key figure behind the Reyhanli attacks, Yusuf Nazik, in a similar operation in Syria, bringing him to Türkiye. These operations demonstrate Türkiye’s continued determination to combat terrorism and its effective cross-border actions.
