Turkish authorities apprehend 59, seize over 2 tons of drugs in nationwide ops

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that 59 suspects were apprehended and 2.32 tons of drugs were seized in Narcocelik-28 operations against those engaged in the production and sale of narcotics.

According to the statement made by Minister Yerlikaya on his social media account, under the coordination of the Gendarmerie General Command Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department, simultaneous operations were carried out by provincial gendarmerie commands with 203 teams, 642 personnel, aerial vehicles and narcotic detector dogs in 16 cities in Türkiye, including Istanbul and Antalya.

Over 2 tons of drugs seized

Of the 59 suspects detained in the operations, 40 were arrested and nine were given judicial control decisions. The procedures of other suspects continue.

During the searches, 2.32 tons of narcotics, 13.62 million cannabis roots and skunk, 2.2 million drug pills were seized.
