Alper Gezeravci, Türkiye’s first astronaut, conducts a groundbreaking Oxygen Saturation experiment aboard the ISS

Alper Gezeravci, Türkiye’s inaugural space traveler, is set to conduct a pioneering Oxygen Saturation experiment aboard the International Space Station (ISS) Friday, according to an announcement from the Turkish Space Agency.

This significant research endeavor aims to unravel the impact of low gravity on human physiology. Specifically, it will assess variations and potential disorders by precisely measuring the oxygen levels in the air, utilizing advanced artificial intelligence technologies.

The Turkish Space Agency shared these details on the social media platform X.

The study is a product of the collaborative efforts of experts from Istanbul’s Nisantasi University, marking a milestone in Türkiye’s burgeoning space research initiatives.

Gezeravci embarked on his historic journey as part of the Ax-3 mission, which took off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission, carried by a Falcon 9 rocket from the renowned private space firm SpaceX, successfully docked with the ISS earlier this week.

During their two-week mission, Gezeravci and his three fellow crew members are scheduled to undertake over 30 scientific experiments. Gezeravci, a pivotal member of the team, will spearhead 13 of these experiments, positioning Türkiye on the frontier of international space research and exploration.
